PROMINENT Filipino actor and fashion model in the ‘80s, Lito Gruet or Juan Miguel Gruet in real life never ceased in pursuing his mission to empower the youth and adult alike, to certainly say “No” to either using and pushing illegal drugs.

He currently enjoys his God-given second life as a reformed stoner who chose to live normally and peacefully with his family and society.

Gruet has once indulged himself to such a harmful vice for 16 lengthy years but then ended lucky enough to hurdle such a terrible experience.

At present, Gruet goes around the country sharing his story to youngsters and adults as on how he went rock bottom in his addiction and wriggled back to recovery.

He recently visited Bacolod City, being a Bacolodnon himself and spoke before the Marketing students of the University of St. La Salle on Drug Awareness Talk dubbed as 360 Degrees: The Dangers of Shabu.

The forum was held at the Mutien Marie Auditorium of the University of St. La Salle, January 25, 2020.

He said, “I felt honored to have shared and lectured to the Marketing students of La Salle thru the relentless efforts of past Council President of USLS Alumni Association, Yves Akol, Club Moderator Liza Mae P. Nismal, Marketers’ Union President Alain Caballero, and the Department Chair of Marketing Management, Jacqueline Felix, who have joined forces to address the ever-present danger of addiction through “non-violent” means. More so, parents should also be enlightened about the unspoken signs and symptoms that may lead their child to addiction,” he said.

He added that the formation of a responsible and law-abiding individual should begin at home, which is an excellent hindrance to developing future addicts, criminals, and potential suicide victims.

The danger is real and it does not exempt Bacolod City as among the areas evaluated as hotbeds of illegal drugs.

The need to spread the awareness is very crucial, he said.

We need to actively engage more on the preventive measure by continuously preparing our youths and adults to firmly stave off any lure or enticement on the use of illegal drugs.

“We must help prevent the formation of new addicts in our community,” he said.

Gruet champions in educating the people on the perils of using and pushing drugs.

He said that it is his way of thanking God for his salvation by giving him another chance to live nicely again. “Once you have completely recovered, then you have a mission to help others from falling prey to illegal drugs,” he said.
