Manhunt on for police killer



CAMP COLONEL JUAN VILLAMOR, Abra -- A manhunt operation is now on for the killer of Police Master Sergeant Frederick Fernandez Ybañez who was gunned down in the morning of January 28 at Villaviciosa, Abra.

Police Colonel Alfredo Kiwad Dangani, provincial director of the Abra Police Provincial Office strongly condemned the blatant killing and vowed to get to the bottom of the murder of Ybañez, who was assigned at Villaviciosa Municipal Police Station.

"I extend the sincerest condolences of the whole Abra PPO team to the orphaned family and colleagues of Ybañez and we assure that the ends of justice will be served,” Dangani said.

Dangani also instructed the Provincial Investigation Detection Management Branch to closely coordinate with the Investigation Team of Villaviciosa police station for deeper probe the murder.

Ybañez, according to a police report was on his way to his rented boarding house in Poblacion, Villaviciosa when one of the two unidentified assailants shot him several times at close range.

He succumbed to gunshot wounds at the back of his head, nape and some parts of his body.

Ybañez was a former member of Cebu PPO and reassigned to Abra PPO on October 11, 2017 as part of the reshuffling of the Philippine National Police and intensified anti-illegal drug campaign under the Duterte Administration.

In his two years of stay in Abra, Villaviciosa residents attested the good working relationship of Ybañez to people as there were also no bad records of him upon reassignment to said unit.

"We could not yet disclose as early as now the real motive behind the killing of our comrade. There might be different possible motives but we don't want to theorize or make impulsive judgments, rather, we will consider all these possibilities and capsulize the investigation based on evidence," Dangani said.
