A TOTAL of 150 police recruits have started their training in Tacloban City after passing the rigorous screening process of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Eastern Visayas.

Composed of 120 males and 30 females, the 150 newest patrolmen and patrolmen will be under the supervision of Lieutenant Colonel Marlon Paiste, regional training director of the Regional Training Center at Barangay San Jose, Tacloban City.

“This is my greater challenge, to endure the next six months of strenuous activities and numerous tests that will measure your capability, strength and more importantly, your unity as a class,” said Brigadier General Ferdinand Divina, police regional director, on the new batch of police officers.

The official also reminded the recruits to be “an instrument for change towards a culture of professionalism and service excellence.”

“We are a team. We should move as one, think as one, and serve as one,” Divina added.

The mandatory training includes the public safety basic recruit course for six months, field training program for five months, and evaluation for one month at the Regional Special Training Unit.

Lieutenant Colonel Ma. Bella Rentuaya, police regional spokesperson, said there were 1, 600 applicants who registered online for the 2019 second cycle attrition quota.

The recruits took their oath last January 30, 2020.

Rentuaya also advised qualified applicants for the next recruitment cycle to secure the necessary initial documentary requirements while waiting for the announcement by the Philippine National Police directorate for personnel and records management. (SunStar Philippines)
