THE Sacred Heart School (SHS)-Ateneo de Cebu won the Under-13 basketball title and the Under-12 volleyball crowns in the All Ateneo Invitational Games 2020, which concluded on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020, at the Ateneo de Cebu campus in Canduman.
Ateneo de Cebu dominated Ateneo de Iloilo, 64-50, to capture the crown in the Under-13 basketball tournament. The hosts took full control of the game in the second period, when they outscored their opponents, 21-10, to take a 35-20, at halftime, which held up until the game’s final buzzer.
Dylan Jared Lim led the way for Ateneo de Cebu with 15 points, five rebounds and four steals while Alden Cainglet had 13 points, seven boards, four assists and two steals.
However, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan escaped with the Under-12 title after it edged Ateneo de Cebu, 82-81. Vinn Racines scored on a baseline lay-up with four seconds to go to give XU the lead for good. Keenan Rasmo had a shot at winning the game for Ateneo de Cebu but his three-pointer missed as time expired.
Xerex Alejandro paced SHS-Ateneo de Cebu with 26 points and eight rebounds while Cole Ting scored 12 points and hauled down 13 boards in a superb effort by the visiting team.
The Under-12 volleyball title meanwhile, was earned by Ateneo de Cebu after it nipped Ateneo de Davao in a five-set thriller, 25-15, 25-24, 25-27, 18-25, 15-9. (JNP)
