5 nCoV patients in Pampanga

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- At least five persons from Pampanga are now categorized as patients under investigation (PUIs) for the 2019 novel coronavirus acute respiratory disease (2019-nCoV ARD).

The Department of Health (DOH)-Central Luzon said Monday, February 3, that the patients are currently admitted in isolation at the Jose B. Lingad Regional Memorial Hospital in this city.

DOH Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit head Dr. Jessie Fantone said the patients are still being monitored and tested to confirm if they have acquired the infectious disease.

"We are still in the process of monitoring the said cases and hopefully, we can get results on February 3 or February 4," he said.

Aside from Pampanga, Fantone said that five other persons in Tarlac

province are also under investigation for the new virus.

He said the patients are quarantined at the Jecsons Medical City in Tarlac City after they manifested flu-like symptoms.

Fantone, meanwhile, urged the public to remain calm and practice good hygiene such as handwashing and proper coughing etiquette as precautionary measure.

He assured that the government is working closely to prevent the spread of virus and protect the general public.

"Please don't panic as these cases are still not confirmed. Nonetheless, the patients are already in quarantine as a precautionary measure," he said.

The DOH added that 67 others were placed in isolation in hospitals, while 10 have already been sent home as they were found to be negative for the deadly virus. (With a report from Ian Ocampo Flora)
