Ombion: Hazards of a neoliberal PH

COME not only in terms of economic drawbacks and political stranglement but also in the safety of our own people from global spread of deadly viruses.

Not only do our raw materials and cheap skilled labor vanished to the US and other G7 powers, we are also their huge dumping ground for their finished goods, toxic food, deadly technologies, and not the least hosts to the millions of their tourists enjoying year round our “Shangri-La” like nature and their big corporations plundering our rich natural resources.

Since our country has substantially opened our doors to imperialist globalization cum neoliberalism, no thanks to key officials who turned lapdogs of these powers, our country is already significantly ravaged, viruses producing deadly diseases have been transmitted to our country and inflicted our people, animals and vegetation.

Food with genetically modified organisms and other forms of deadly altered genes unfit for humans have flooded our market thru big malls, fast food chains and convenience stores. They not only changed our food habit but our entire food system.

Decades back, hybrid crops seeds and laboratory- experimented animal genes have been introduced to our local farmers and livestock breeders thru state institutions and agencies. The results - not only our farmers suffered high cost of production for low productivity, our producers and consumers have since then been strangled by endless flow of deadly pests and diseases.

Imperialist globalization is the chief cause and carrier of the spread of toxic food, radioactive technologies, highly pollutant energy sources, throughout the world.

China as an emerging social imperialist country, competing with US and G7 powers, inventing new sources of food, technologies and medicines in the name of superprofit and global hegemony, share responsibility in the growing chaos and deepening world crisis.

The rapid spread of such deadly viruses such as SARS, Merscove, and now corona virus, reportedly emanating from China, only proves they could only emerge and grow in countries with capacities to do anything and everything to reinvent nature and sources of human needs.

The challenge for Philippines now is how to reorient and rebuild its national development paradigm away from its present platform of neoliberalism, that is of liberalization, deregulation, privatization and denationalization.

Neoliberal development paradigm has already been proven disastrous and deadly.

It stifles national industrialization and comprehensive agricultural development.

It also creates new breed of mutants from the spread and in-breeding of numerous viruses among Filipinos, animals and vegetation.

A nation with well-defined development paradigm, empowered people, capacitated and truly patriotic servant leaders, working on a whole range of progressive systems and structures - is our ultimate weapon to defeat all breed and forms of viruses.
