THE Mabalacat City Government has distributed about P2.465 million worth of educational assistance on Tuesday, February 4.

At least 493 students received P5,000 each during the distribution of the cash aid led by Mayor Crisostomo Garbo at Xevera Lot Only Covered Court.

The distribution of educational assistance is part of Garbo's "9 pillars of Good Governance," which is "Equal Access to Education."

"In previous times, we have to wait first for our kuya or ate to finish their studies before we can go to school. One at a time. It's not the case anymore, because you do have the city government now to rely on," Garbo said during the distribution.

Vice Mayor Geld Aquino and Councilor Carlo Dizon were also present during the distribution.

The educational assistance, which was funded through the Mayor's Office and Gender and Development Office, is an assistance given to eligible students to help defray school expenses and cost of sending children to school.

These expenses may include school fees, supplies, projects, allowance and other related expenses which will be provided once in a school/academic year for students.

According to Social Worker III Ma. Luisa Maglalang, priority recipients are working students in public senior high school, vocational/technological schools, state colleges and universities.

Jolina Dizon, 19, from Barangay Tabun and a first year Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) at Mabalacat City College, thanked the current administration for the cash aid.

The distribution of assistance was facilitated by the Social Assistance Office and staff in coordination with the City Treasurer's Office.

Clients who would like to avail themselves of such assistance can visit the SAO at the City Hall.
