ON THE third run of the Gawad Linaw Awards of Mandaue City, Oakridge Realty Development Corp. was recognized with the Best Practice in Labor and Management Relations for 2019.
Out of the 35 companies that were short-listed, 12 companies were chosen as finalists, but Oakridge Realty Development Corp. is the only company that surpassed them this year.
Mandaue City Councilor Marie Immaline Cortes-Zafra said the award recognizes the efforts of the businesses that have outstanding relationship towards their employees.
This would also encourage other big and small companies to improve and innovate their labor and employment relations, Zafra said.
During the awarding, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes reiterated that economic gains are best sustained through a stronger private-public partnership, expressing further his optimism that the business community in Mandaue City is labor-friendly.
In his acceptance speech, Oakridge Realty Development Corp. chief executive officer Edmun Liu said the award is a testament to how “a strong, harmonious, dynamic and dedicated employer-employee partnership can bring about great and wonderful progress” not just within the company but in the entire business community of Mandaue City.
Maria Lourdes Mozo, marketing communication manager of Oakridge Realty Development Corp., said they did not expect to be recognized since there are a lot of good companies in Mandaue City.
“The reason we applied was because we believe in the system of the company, and the employer-employee relationship is there. We wanted to give it a shot and we are just grateful to have been chosen for the 2019 Gawad Linaw,” said Mozo.
Gawad Linaw was realized together with City Tripartite Industrial Peace Council in April 2012 and its purpose is to check the industrial peace and industrial stability of the companies in Mandaue City, Zafra said.
“If they show industrial peace within their companies, it would garner more investors that would open their business in Mandaue City. This would mean more employment and increase of revenues so it will still go back to Mandaue and to the Mandauehanons,” said Zafra.
Nominees to the Gawad Linaw Award were judged according to the following criteria: employee-management relationship, state of labor-management relations and dispute resolution strategies, productivity program, and corporate social responsibility and accountability. (KFD)
