THE Society of Cabahug Medalists Inc., in partnership with the Mandaue City Government and the Department of Education Mandaue City Division, recently launched the Songwriting Contest on the Life and Works of Justice Sotero Barte Cabahug.

The songs will be used in school settings to stimulate the learning of students as well as inspire them to emulate the life of Cabahug, considered “Mandaue’s Greatest Son.”

Cabahug was born on April 22, 1891 in Mandaue, Cebu, then still a part of the Captaincy General of the Philippines.

A lawyer by profession, Cabahug became a civil servant, legislator, politician and a member of the judiciary. He was the secretary of public works and communications from 1945 until 1946; Cebu Provincial Board member, 1952-1954; secretary of national defense, 1954-1956; and Court of Appeals associate justice, 1956-1961.

The songwriting tilt is open to all interested composers from anywhere in the world. Deadline for the submission of entries is March 27, 2020.

For more information, interested participants can contact Marc Lennard Colina through cell phone 0932-242-4262 and email marccolina456@gmail.com. (S)
