CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno Tuesday morning, February 4, said the lockdown of Alwana Business Park in Barangay Cugman is “not doable.”
“Kadungog lagi ko naay suggestion nga i-lockdown. We have to look into that very, very seriously,” Moreno said.
Last Monday, February 3, City Councilor George Goking proposed to lockdown the Alwana Business Park following reports of several foreigners living in the area.
“Daghang allegations nga taga Wuhan daw na siya, so this can be resolved with a lockdown, para to give them enough time to defend themselves,” Goking said.
However, the city mayor said that they cannot order a lockdown due to race issue.
“You don’t order a lockdown simply because of a race issue. It’s not doable,” Moreno said.
Moreno stressed that he wanted to correct the impression that they’re targeting the Chinese community in the city because of the issue on novel coronavirus.
“Ayaw sad kay that will precisely will lead to discrimination. Dili sad maayo nga tungod lugar Chinese lain na ang imong tinan-awan. Ayaw sad kay naa man sad silay katungod nga angay respetuhan,” Moreno said.
“Let us not underestimate the capability of China to address this issue,” he added.
