February 26 a holiday in Zamboanga City

FEBRUARY 26, Wednesday, is declared as a special non-working day in Zamboanga City in celebration of the 83rd Charter Anniversary or "Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga."

The declaration is based on Proclamation 902, which was issued by MalacaƱang and signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea by the authority of the President.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said the declaration of a special non-working day will give residents of the city the "full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies."

Salazar said the City Government has unveiled the headline events commemorating the 83rd Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga, an annual observance that celebrates the city's charter anniversary marked by the installation of the first set of appointed city officials led by Mayor Nicasio Valderosa on February 26, 1937.

Among the events prepared for the celebration are: Zamboanga Hiphop Competition 2020 Elimination Round (February 9); Dia de Senador Roseller Lim (February 9), #ZamboLoveFest 2020 (February 10-14), Zamboanga Film Festival 2020 (February 16-20), Inter-school Drum and Lyre Competition 2020 (February 21), Zamboanga Film Festival 2020 Awards Night (February 22), Zamboanga Hip-hop Dance and Open Cheerdance Competition 2020 (February 24), and Zamboanga Music RunVolution 4.0 (February 25).

Capping off the celebrations will be the 83rd Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga main program at 4 p.m. of February 26 at the Mayor Joaquin F. Enriquez Jr. Memorial Sports Complex, which will be preceded by Grand Civic-Military Parade 2020 at 3 p.m.

Also headlining the main program are the Local Achiever's Awards and Zamboanga and the Field Demo Competition 2020. (SunStar Zamboanga)
