Mayor mulls cancellation of contract with water provider

THE water service provider of San Simon town is now in hot water as the local government is mulling the cancellation of their concessionaire agreement.

This was following the numerous complaints aired by Simonians to the local government and through social media platforms on the quality of service provided by the San Simon Waterworks, which is operated by the Crystal Liquid Philippines Inc. (CLPI)

Echoing the complaints, Mayor Abundio “Jun” Punsalan, Jr. alleged that CLPI has not been truthful to the contract it entered with the local government.

“The water is usually dirty, smelly and low pressure. That is unfair to their consumers who are paying the right amount but are not receiving the service they deserve,” Punsalan said.

He also noted that for 17 years, CLPI failed to install water hydrants which is also allegedly in violation of their contract.

In response to this, Punsalan ordered the creation of “Task Force Tubig” which will be responsible in finding immediate solutions, although temporary, to the water crisis, and direct CLPI in implementing remedial actions to address residents’ complaints and dissatisfaction and enhancement and execution of mitigation strategies.

It will also lead in coordinating and seeking immediate legal assistance on the sanctions that can be imposed against CLPI for its inefficiency, as well as on the exploration on the need to welcome new service providers.

“They have not been performing their part on the agreement and the contract cannot stop the local government in looking and welcoming other water service providers, especially if the existing one is becoming disadvantageous to the municipality and its people,” Punsalan said.
