A BODY of a woman was found floating at an irrigation canal at Barangay Atipuluan in Bago City Wednesday afternoon, February 5.

Major John Joel Batusbatusan, city police chief, said a villageman saw the victim wearing a red shirt and black pants floating around 2:30 p.m.

Batusbatusan said they immediately coordinated with the Barangay Council of Atipuluan for the identity of the victim. However, the latter said she is not a resident of the village.

“Our investigators also coordinated with the nearby Barangay Abuanan, the victim is also not from there,” he added.

The long stretch of the irrigation system connects Bago City and Murcia town.

The police, though, said they are still checking with the Murcia Police Station if there’s a reported missing person from the locality.

“We have yet to check if she is a resident of Murcia,” Batusbatusan said, adding that “but for now, she remains unidentified.”

Authorities said that, based on the appearance of the victim, no injuries were found in her body.

Her shirt was partially taken off. Batusbatusan said this might be a result from being drifted by water current within a “long period” of time.

He, however, said all possible angles are being looked into “but for now, it is considered as a drowning incident.”

The victim was already subjected to medical examination to determine “whether there’s a foul play” in the incident.

Eventually, it might be subjected to an autopsy upon the approval of the family to determine the cause of her death.
