Malay eyes entry restriction for people from China

THE local government of Malay is eyeing the restriction of entry into the town of all people who have history of travel to China in the past two weeks.

Madel Joy Tayco, information manager of the Novel Coronavirus Task Force of Malay town, said a resolution calling for the restriction was passed during a meeting Wednesday, February 5.

The restriction includes tourists coming to Boracay or to any barangays of Malay, as well as overseas Filipino workers and businessmen.

"Details on how to guard the borders including seaport, highways and Caticlan Airport are still being finalized. For residents or balikbayans, they could be quarantined. These restrictions are only meant for those who have history of travel to Hong Kong, China and Macau in the past two weeks," Tayco said.

The resolution still needs to be endorsed to the Municipal Council and then to the Office of the Mayor before it could be implemented.

Meanwhile, Tayco said that they are monitoring 303 Chinese nationals who are currently staying in Boracay for possible novel coronavirus acute respiratory disease infection. (SunStar Philippines)
