THE City Health Office said that to date Zamboanga City has no reported case and no person under investigation (PUI) for the dreaded 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
Dr. Dulce Miravite, city health office chief, said Thursday, February 6, they are tracking and monitoring some people who traveled to China and are in this city.
Miravite said these people are asymptomatic and are under self-quarantine and were advised not to move around.
She added that being under self-quarantine, people being monitored are advised not to associate with other people for the meantime.
Meanwhile, the health official urged the public anew to refrain from spreading and sharing unverified and misleading information related to the 2019-nCoV to avoid panic and confusion.
“Please share and spread 2019-nCoV information from verified and legitimate sources only,” she added.
She advised the public to contact hotline numbers 926-9274, 926-1848, 926-1849 and 955-9601 for assistance in cases of emergencies.
Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar together with Miravite and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Elmeir Jade Apolinario went live Thursday via the Beng Climaco FB page to allay public fears and concerns regarding the 2019-nCoV scare.
This, as people panicked following media reports alleging that a suspected 2019-nCoV case is in a village in this city’s first district.
Salazar assured that the person referred to in the media reports is being monitored having a travel history to China recently.
“We would like to assure the Zamboangueño public that we have spoken to the person concerned and he does not, based on the evaluation of our health professionals, does not show signs of any of the symptoms that have been identified,” the mayor said. (SunStar Zamboanga)
