LEADERSHIP is serving with honor and leading by example. It is an ability wherein the leaders have a capacity to do something through talent and skill. Talent is inherent in person while skill is proficiency gained through training and experience.
As an adviser of Supreme Student Government of Dona Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School in Silay City, I am tasked to train student leaders who will lead more than 6,000 thousand junior and senior high school students. Honing student leaders does not happen overnight. It takes patience and time to see the transformation of ordinary students to become leaders among their peers.
Leadership training develops adaptive leadership that makes leaders versatile in making adjustments. Leaders who fail to adjust are lost. The kind of leadership that we develop allows our leaders to act on a setting. They carefully observe and discern before making decisions. We empower them to achieve confidence and self-esteem.
Students leaders should act on feelings of fellow students. They have to link to other students’ instinct or intuition. This would lead to the sharing of varied ideas that would lead to the solution of the problems. A group leadership can foster creativity by using the limited resources. In our training, we always see to it that everyone in a team can be a leader.
Leaders are both born and made. We take pains in giving birth to quality leaders and we expose them to a serious training to develop their traits for dedicated service. (Geornalyn Diaz-Chavez, Social Studies teacher, DMLMHS)
