ORGANIZERS expect some 500 to 1,000 participants in the first Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Picpa) Run-For-A-Cause set in an out-and-back course from People's Park in Davao City on February 16.

Picpa Davao's Devzon Porras, chairman of the ways and means committee, said the event aims to raise funds to support their scholars.

Lord Eddie Aguilar also said, "We are looking at three BSA (Bachelor of Science in Accountancy) student scholars na walang-wala jud ba pero naa miy qualifications (those who are financially hard up but we have set qualifications)."

The organizers aim to raise P300,000 to P500,000 from sponsorships and registration fees to help sustain the education of their scholars.

"We have annual activity for our scholarship program but this is the first time we are holding a fun run. We already have several scholars over the past 10 years and five have graduated with four of them already CPAs (certified public accountants) and the other one is still reviewing for the CPA board exam," Aguilar said during Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao, adding that they hope to sponsor more scholars in the future.

Ross Luga, meanwhile, said they thought of conducting a fun run as one way of generating funds for their scholarship program and increasing awareness to their targeted audience.

He also said, "Taking care of one's health though physical exercises such as running is also important."

Registration fees are P450 for adults and P300 for students inclusive of singlet and breakfast.

Categories entered are 3K five-team, 3K couple and individual 3K, 5K and 10K.

Registration is ongoing at Picpa Davao office along Araullo Street or at Boatman Outdoor along Bolton Street.

Eralino said prizes await beginners and winners of the foot race.
