SACRED Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and Erco DB will gun for the crowns in the Girls 18 and Men’s Open Division 2 of the AboitizLand Football Cup on Feb. 9, 2020.
Though both teams will be facing undefeated teams in their last match of their divisions, which follows the league format, both have the edge in the tie break owing to their strong offensive showing.
Ateneo will shoot for the Girls 18 title against fellow undefeated team University of San Carlos in their final game at the SHS-Ateneo field on Feb. 9, 2020 at 3 p.m.
The five-team Girls 18 division uses the league type format and Ateneo has all the advantage going into the game. Undefeated in three games, it only needs a draw against USC as it holds a massive 20 goal advantage in goal difference over USC thanks to its 28-0 win over the Cebu International School. Ateneo has scored 34 goals in three games and conceded only one, while USC has scored 13 goals in its three wins while conceding one.
To win the title, USC has to beat Ateneo by at least 11 goals to improve its goal difference to 24 and drag Ateneo to 22. A 10-0 win by USC will see both teams tied at 10 points and a goal difference of 23 but Ateneo still holds the edge in the next tie breaker in the number of goals scored.
Erco DB also has the advantage and only needs a draw to win against Makoto FC on February 9 at the Cebu City Sports Center to win the Division.
Both Erco DB and Makoto have 12 points on a 4-0 record but the Erco, made up of the high school team of the Don Bosco Technoloy Center, have 14-goal edge after scoring 33 and conceding none in its four wins. In contrast, Makoto scored 24 goals and allowed five in its four wins. To win the title, Makoto has to beat Erco DB by eight goals to improve its goal difference to 27 and drag Erco DB down to 25. A 7-0 win by Makoto will have both teams have the same goal difference of 26 with Erco having the edge in the next tie breaker in the number of goals scored. / (ML with PR)
