Command center instrumental in solving hit-and-run cases

THE Zamboanga City Security and Surveillance Coordinating Task Force command center has assisted authorities in the resolution of emergency cases monitored in January this year.

In its report of accomplishment submitted to the City Mayor's Office, the command center contributed to the resolution of three hit-and-run incidents in January.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said the plate numbers of vehicles involved were taken through closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in areas near the incidents.

The first incident occurred on Sevilla Street corner Claveria Street on January 6, involving a single motorcycle and a Toyota Wigo.

The incident was captured through the CCTV camera of a private establishment.

The police investigator requested the assistance of an operator from the command center to further review the CCTV footage, as there was no available CCTV operator of the establishment at that time.

The office successfully tracked down the camera footages from nearby establishments and the existing cameras installed at the central business district in order to identify the vehicle plate number.

The investigator called up the driver of the four-wheeled vehicle and invited him to the Police Station 11 for investigation.

Another hit-and-run case assisted by the center occurred along the exit of KCC Mall De Zamboanga, Governor Camins Avenue on January 12, involving a Ford ranger vehicle.

The investigator gave the exact time of the incident, including the description of the vehicle involved, prompting the operators to locate the vehicle. Its plate number was eventually traced through the camera installed at the intersection of Mayor Agan Avenue.

The incident was later settled. (SunStar Zamboanga)
