Pangan: A remarkable recovery

In previous columns, i wrote about my son, Reginald Don, and his recurring illness of hypertension accompanied by vomiting.

After several visits to hospitals, and confinements, he seemed to have taken over the illness and his body developed into a young man of 17 going on 18 on June 20, this year.

Incurring several absences at Santos Ventura National High School (Grade XI) where his class adviser and teachers understood his predicament, Reginald Don emerged top two (from previous top five) in his class. At the cards-out activity last Friday, January 31, his class adviser noted the big progress Reginald has achieved in his scholastic standing.

A few years back, his case was diagnosed as critical with no cure yet in sight. Meanwhile, his frequent confinements in hospitals have made a significant dent on our family's financial resources and we were clueless as to how to finance his future hospitalization expenses should his illness continue to occur.

Recovering from such illness, Reginald, now going on 18 and an occasional gym patron, has maintained his physique and comportment. He is adept at gadgets and electronic games or esports including Mobile Legends and Dota.

He frequents internet cafes and computer shops along with his elder brothers Joben and Jovito, both IT experts and mean e-gamers.

In retrospect, our faith in God probably made the situation on Reginald better and manageable and hassle-free. We are not taking any chances on his health, however, and keep constant monitoring of his health and his habits. WE forbid his long hours inside computer shops and internet cafes. Instead, we sternly advise him to take plenty of sleep and complete rest.

Previously, he was a SPES participant with an assignment at the Tabun barangay hall.

On his own, he sought and gained employment at Jollibee branch along MacArthur Highway, Dau where he was given dining assignments. Now that he is gainfully employed, he suggested that his sister, Sophia Celina, take his slot for the next SPES schedule, courtesy of Public Employment Service Office, now headed by my niece, Josephine Basilio-Tanglao.

As a young man, he displays sensitive but sometimes abrasive manner. Well.

I wrote this piece with the 2019 novel coronavirus in mind. I just hope this disease does not befall my family, relatives and friends!
