TYPICAL mornings for Filipinos involve the morning news, either read through mobile phones or the traditional newspapers, pan de sal, and a cup of coffee.

For some, morning coffees are perfect ways to perk their senses for the day while some find it easier to answer to Mother Nature's call after they had a cup.

Coffees are known to be rich in antioxidants. But more than this obvious function, the left-over coffee grounds in your coffee maker or presser can be re-used and can do wonders, particularly for skin and hair care.

1. Removes unwanted hair residue

Simply wet your hair before you rub a handful of coffee grounds into it. The grounds will help break up residue of styling products left on your hair. In effect, it leaves your hair looking healthier and shinier. Rinse and shampoo afterwards.

2. DIY face masks

Mix together 2 tablespoons of used coffee grounds, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 3 tablespoons of whole milk, and 1 tablespoon of honey. Mix well until you achieve the mask-like consistency. Apply on your face and let it sit for 15 minutes before removing with a warm washcloth.

This DIY face mask is believed to fight skin aging as it eliminates toxins especially with the antioxidants that coffees are famous for. It also protects the skin against free radicals from every pollution and cigarette smoke among others.

3. Coffee body scrub

It has been proven that when coffee is applied to the skin it helps draw fluid away from fat cells. In effect, it shrinks them and temporarily minimizes cellulite.

The caffeine in the coffee acts as stimulants which dilate the blood vessels, tightening the skin, giving off a toned appearance -- all of these while reducing water retention while increasing circulation. In short, bye bye cellulite.

To make your own coffee body scrub against cellulite, mix together a cup of coffee grounds with a half cup of sugar (white or brown will do), and a cup of coconut oil. Mix together until you achieve the wanted consistency. Massage the scrub into wet skin for a minute per area before rinsing with warm water.

4. DIY Coffee eye mask

This DIY formula is proven effective and helpful for everyone who has puffy eyes and dark circles.

Mix together a pinch of powdered black pepper, a teaspoon of coffee grounds, 1/4 teaspoon of coconut, and just few water enough to make paste from the mixture. Mix well. Apply the paste under your eyes and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Gently wipe with a warm washcloth before applying moisturizer. Do this regularly to better decrease dark circles under your eyes.

All these beauty formula are taken from different beauty websites which had already proven these DIY to be helpful for the hair and the skin. So next time you clean your coffeemaker and presser, remember, there's more to the used coffee grounds than providing you a kick in the morning.
