Team Lakay patriarch named SKP regional chief

TEAM Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao was recently named regional governor of the Samahang Kickboxing ng Pilipinas (SKP).

Sangiao was appointed as regional chief for Northern Luzon and Cordillera Administrative Region by SKP president and Senator Francis Tolentino and SKP secretary general and lawyer Wharton Chan.

The appointment was signed January 12 as per memorandum 20-03 citing Sangiao’s appointment is due to his well-known skill, experience and knowledge in the field of kickboxing as well as high dignity and familiarity with the community around his jurisdiction.

“Upholding the true conduct of martial arts, this appointment will serve as the trust imposed upon you by this federation to facilitate an effective thrusts of promoting the sport throughout the country,” the letter of appointment added.

Prior to his appointment as regional governor, Sangiao was named as striking coach for the Philippine kickboxing team who saw action in the 30th Southeast Asian Games hosted by the country with three of his wards competing in the biennial meet.

Three Team Lakay fighters also saw action in the SEAG where Jerry Olsim, Gina Iniong, and Jean Claude Saclag fought their way to gold medals.

Other Cordillera fighters who saw action in the biennial meet are world medalist Jomar Xanda Boy Balangui of the University of Baguio who won a silver in the low kick event, rising female fighter Renz Dacquel (silver- full contact) and hard-hitting Karol Estepa Maguide (bronze – full contact), both of Highland Boxing Gym.

The Philippines placed second with a 3 – 2 – 1 gold, silver, bronze medal output in the competition with Vietnam bagging the over – all title in kickboxing after bagging four golds and two bronze medals.
