Erco DB, Makoto FC start strong

AFTER their Division B teams secured promotion to Division 1, it was the turn of the A teams of Erco DB and Makoto FC to make some noise as they joined the winners’ circle of the Men’s Open Division 1.

Makoto FC routed former runner-up Don Sacredale, 4-0, while Erco DB blanked the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), 3-0, to win their debuts in the division at the Cebu City Sports Center on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020.

Jeremy Dutcher got the first goal for Makoto in the 13th minute, while Ken Okuda added another in the 16th minute. Russell Cabellero made it 3-0 in the 33rd minute, while Harinori Aoki got the final goal in the 55th minute.

On the other hand, it was a costly night for Sacredale as five of their players got booked for yellow cards.

These players were Gerald Lagumas, Bertram Musni, Nicholas Villacin, Dave Paez and Neil Dorimon.

Meanwhile, Erco DB also kicked off its campaign in style with a 3-0 win against USJ-R. John Bosco Jatau got things going with a first goal in the 21st minute, while Stephen Okeke gave his side a comfortable 2-0 edge in the 40th.

USJ-R, which lost to Don Sacredale in its debut, tried to fight back in the second half but conceded a third goal in the 60th.

Defending champion Leylam, which did not see action over the weekend, still leads the division on goal difference as the top three teams all share a 1-0 record.

Makoto is second, trailing Leylam by one goal, while Erco DB is third, two goals behind Leylam.

Sacredale dropped to fourth and USJ-R remain last after losing its first two games.

UC Kaitech has yet to play a match. (PR)
