THE Cebu Ice Skating Club Inc. will look to duplicate the same feat it did in Thailand when the team compete in the Ice Skate 2020 in Malaysia slated on Aug. 8 to 16.

The Cebu Ice Skating Club Inc. of SM Seaside City Skating Rink recently made its present felt in the 2nd Asia Championship Series in Thailand last month, where the team finished second overall.

The Cebu Ice Skating Club Inc. nabbed 30 gold medals, 27 silver medals and 10 bronzes in the three-day tournament held at the IceRink Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on Jan. 16 to 18.

The skaters from host country Thailand finished as the overall champion.

Contributing to the 67- medal haul were Franz Cameron Tadena, Jannine Christabelle Go, Johanna Christabelle Go, Danica Denise Chua, Tatiana Dominique Sanchez, Lloyd Formentera, Leanne Hailey Go, Kaila Kamila Raulanne Padilla, Lou Marie Mediatrix Ang, Dominic Van Chua, Deandra Gothong, Dawn, Jasmine, Gothong, Francesca Claire Go, Maurelle Paredes, Isabel Raphaela Esolana and Erphy Claire Mackenzie.

Joanne Arriba-Padilla of Cebu Ice Skating Club Inc. said it’s a great sight to see young kids showing their passion in ice skating despite the Philippines being a tropical country and with limited ice skating rinks.

“The kids are competitive, you can see their drive to excel in this field. Hopefully they get to continue this and reach their goals to compete in bigger international events ,” she said.

Last year, the team also made waves in Thailand after winning 40 gold medals, 21 silvers medals and 15 bronzes in the 2019 Skate Asia.

“After the event in Thailand, the skaters took a well-deserved break before going back to their training routines ,” she said. (RSC)
