Nalzaro: Issues inside Cebu City Hall

DID you hear what they are talking about in Cebu City Hall? These are some of the intriguing issues we gathered through our very reliable sources.

After lambasting a fellow candidate and a partymate on social media and in his blocktime radio program right after the May elections, a defeated councilor now vents his ire on a ranking City Hall official. This “has-been” councilor blamed a fellow candidate for his defeat in the last elections, claiming he was a victim of junking and single voting. Until now, he has not yet recovered from that debacle, and is still attacking his partymate. While this official subjected to his attack now was a law associate of the chief executive and is now holding a very sensitive position at City Hall.

According to the source, the motive of this “has-been” councilor in attacking this official is too personal. The source said the recommendation of this “has-been” councilor for those seeking jobs at City Hall has never been acted upon by the official. The defeated councilor had recommended some of his siblings, relatives and supporters for employment at City Hall, but the official did not act on the recommendation, claiming the latter already exceeded in the quota for employment given to each political ally.

So, that is the reason he got mad at the official. He is making City Hall as an employment agency for his siblings and supporters. His brothers and children are already there and he himself was also appointed to head a certain office and to sit in a special body. That is the reason some of those recommended by the mayor’s allies, especially the barangay captains were no longer accommodated because he was given the priority. Gusto niya hutdon tanan.

I am advising the local chief executive to be extra careful and to watch his back on this “has-been” councilor as he is considered a traitor. He betrayed his comrades in the movement and he can do it again to his political allies. Pagbantay, mayor, unayon ra ka ana madugay.

A topnotcher councilor who bolted to the administration right after the May elections has declared independence. This, after his proposed ordinance giving exemptions to those operating entertainment establishments from paying amusement tax, was not supported by majority of his partymates. His partymates refused to support the proposed ordinance because it will affect the revenue of the City Government. Some of his partymates are willing to support the ordinance, provided that it includes only the establishments that are operating small-time entertainment. But the proponent wants to exempt bigtime entertainment establishments like that of Ocean Park, which is operated by a bigtime shopping mall located at the South Road Properties (SRP).

Some of his colleagues questioned his motive. “That is too much. How can the city collect its rightful revenue if they are going to exempt these big entertainment establishments,” some of the councilors argued. They smell something fishy in his move. This councilor, who is in his last term, is planning to run for Congress. His colleagues suspect that his move is for “funding purposes.”

This ranking City Hall official mounted a big tarpaulin at the lobby of his office with the picture of National Basketball Association star Kobe Bryant. This official must be a big fan of Bryant who died due to a helicopter crash in California two weeks ago. This official is a basketball enthusiast and known for his three-point shooting skills.

There is no problem if he idolizes Kobe. But some watchers observed that everytime this official would pass by Kobe’s picture, he will stop for a few minutes and pray.
