Sayaw Pinoy goes nationwide for NAM 2020

SAYAW Pinoy 2020 is set to travel nationwide as part of the celebration of National Arts Month (NAM) celebration this February.

Sayaw Pinoy, the flagship program of the National Committee on Dance headed by Ms. Shirley Halili-Cruz, is the longest running dance concert program for NAM. It highlights various dance forms like folk dance, traditional dance, contemporary dance, neoclassical dance, ballet, modern dance, and hiphop.

Since its inception in 2009, different local government units, schools, private institutions, and commercial enterprises in different parts of the country, has been part of the decade long journey of Sayaw Pinoy. Annually, for the whole month of February, Sayaw Pinoy generates an audience of about 65,000 collectively in all its performances.

Regional openings

For 2020, festive performances from different dance companies from Luzon, Mindanao, NCR, and Visayas will be staged as Sayaw Pinoy graces all the Regional Openings of Arts Month starting with the Visaya launch and grand opening salvo for the month-long celebration in Ormoc City, Leyte on January 31.

On February 1, National Parks Development Committee will host the National Capital Region opening and the Sayaw Pinoy at the Rizal Park Open Air Auditorium. This will also will kick-start NPDC’s offerings of Concert at the Park with Sayaw Pinoy stages every succeeding Sunday of the month.

Following the NCR launch will be Sayaw Pinoy in Luzon, happening in Puerto Princesa, Palawan on February 7 to 8, then it will go to Bulacan, Pampanga and Lucena. There will also be Sayaw Pinoy in Mindanao on February 15 to 16 which will happen in Tangub City, Misamis Occidental, Pagadian City, and Oroquita City.

Sayaw Pinoy stages

Apart from the regional launches, Sayaw Pinoy will also visit different sites nationwide. In Butuan City, Zamboaga City, Koronadal City, Ayala Mall, Cebu City, SM Seaside, Cebu City, SM Mall, Iloilo City.

In the Negros Island, Sayaw Pinoy will be staged at the Bacolod City High School and University of Saint La Sale on February 26; in Victorias City, Cadiz City, and EB Magalona on February 27; in La Castellana and Valladolid on February 28; and in Talisay and Silay City on February 29.

Sayaw Pinoy will also move around the metro Manila, Marikina City, San Juan, Pasig, and in the different local government units in Metro Manila will also be participating in Sayaw Pinoy 2020.

Sayaw Pinoy is part of the annual celebration of National Arts Month in February, in accordance to Presidential Proclamation No. 638 signed in 1991.
