Newborn found dead

RESIDENTS of Purok Beauty in the Sky, Barangay Babag in Lapu-Lapu City were shocked to find a newborn baby girl dead by the roadside on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020.

The newborn baby was found in a bushy part of a roadside that was fully surrounded by rocks on Timpolok Road.

Flies were already hovering over the body of the newborn when discovered by residents, who immediately called the police.

Police Senior Master Sergeant Jude Abellana, desk officer of Police Station 3 in Lapu-Lapu City, said the umbilical cord of the baby still looked freshly cut when found by residents.

Found near the baby’s body was a shard of glass with bloodstains.

Police believe the shard of glass could have been used in cutting the umbilical cord.

“Sa pagkakaron gi follow up pa kinsay posibleng ginikanan nga way puangod ug nipanamas tamas ato alang sa posibleng person of interest, kinsay nagbuntis, kinsay nanganak. Anha gyud na magsugod (As of now we are following up information to identify the parents of the dead baby and who could be persons of interest, who was pregnant, who recently delivered a baby. Everything will start there),” Abellana said.

Police are calling on the public to report any information that could help identify the parents of the baby.

The remains of the baby were later brought to the Mother of Perpetual Help Parish in Barangay Babag for the church’s blessing before the burial.

“Duha ka kaso ang posible ani, abortion or infanticide, abortion ug natawo na ang bata unya namatay gilabay ug abortion gituyo gyud sa pakuha (Two cases can be filed against the parent, abortion or infanticide if the baby was born and died and abandoned or abortion if the baby was intentionally aborted),” Abellana said.
