Satellite voter registration in Bacolod villages set

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bacolod City will conduct satellite voter registrations in various villages starting February 22, 2020 to June 19, 2021 in the city.

City Election Registrar Jan Anthony Saril said Tuesday, February 11, they will hold the satellite registration every Saturday only starting on February 22 for the May 2022 national and local elections.

These villages are Villamonte on February 22; Banago, March 21; Alijis, April 25; Singcang-Airport, May 23; Punta Taytay, June 27; Sum-ag, July 18; Felisa, August 15; Pahanocoy, September 19; Bata, October 17; Tangub, November 14; and Estefania, December 14.

The registration will continue on January 16, 2021 in Barangay Mansilinga; Taculing, February 20; Handumanan, March 20; Granada, April 10; Mandalagan, May 22; and Cabug June 19.

Saril said the satellite registrations will be held at the covered courts of gymnasiums of said barangays.

“We prioritize our named and big barangays including those areas that were not covered during the previous registrations on August 1 and September 30, 2019 satellite registrations,” he said.

He added last week, he held a meeting with the barangay officials and he already discussed it with them.

Saril said that if the other villages are also willing for satellite registrations within their barangays, they can submit their request at Comelec office but they should not have less than 200 applicants.

From January 20 to 25 this year, Comelec recorded a total of 721 applicants and 344 of them are new registrants. On January 27 to February, they recorded a total of 487 applicants.

Registrants should bring their valid government identification cards (ID) with picture and signature, as well as an original and photocopy of their birth certificate.

If their residence is not stated on the ID, they should bring a proof of their residence or billing statements, like water bills or electric bills.

Saril urged the registrants to register early and not to wait for the last minute of the registration to avoid inconvenience. (MAP)
