Wanted farmer dies in shootout with police

A FARMER facing criminal raps was killed in a brief shootout with the authorities in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police said Thursday, February 13.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the slain farmer as Marbin Tandoy Bayote, 29 a resident of the Paraiso Village, Liloy, Zamboanga Del Norte.

Galvez said the brief shootout happened around 5 p.m. Wednesday in Dawa Village, Josefina, Zamboanga del Sur.

She said the shootout ensued as Bayote, armed with a caliber .38 revolver, opened fire after running to a grassy area when he noticed the arrival of the police team.

She said the policemen returned fire hitting Bayote, who died instantaneously.

Galvez added that the police team was about to serve a warrant of arrest against Bayote, who is facing charges for robbery with homicide before the court of Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte. (SunStar Zamboanga)
