BAGUIO City top official commended the Department of Health–Cordillera (DOH–CAR) and members of the task force on coronavirus including village officials for immediately implementing measures to mitigate the possible spread of novel coronavirus disease (Covid–19) in the region and in the city.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong credited the timely dissemination of information pertaining to the coronavirus disease by DOH–CAR for local government units in the region to make the necessary measures against Covid–19.
“We commend the health department and all other agencies for acting promptly to guard against the corona virus. The periodic updates on the latest developments on the corona virus both on the global and domestic scene including our local scene gives us the capacity to make sure that all the strategic control measures are in place and at the same time, we are very proactive in all the strategies that the department of health is implementing which is why we are glad that we have significantly reduced the number of patients under investigation,” Magalong said.
Magalong added that despite the significant reduction in the number of patients under investigation, the region remains Covid–19 free.
“Right now, we still don’t understand basically the behavior of the virus and we are still awaiting the report from the experts especially the mode of transmission and the contact tracing process which is still not fully completed, so anything can happen in the following days and what is important is we are prepared, we are proactive and we are doing everything to implement and execute our mitigating and control measures,” Magalong said.
The mayor recently issued a memorandum order to all barangay officials to include in their monitoring the listing of its residents and visitors that may have had a history of travel China recently.
“Our Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams in the City or BHERTS and all have complied. We just issued a memo, an executive order requiring them to register and identify the residents and visitors in their Barangays that came from travel especially in the places of Hong Kong, Macau and China which will immediately be sent to the Office of the Mayor and copy furnish our City Health Office. Another is the strict monitoring of English as a Second Language learning institutions in the city together with our Filipino and Chinese communities who have given their full support and who continuous to provide us of the critical information that we need,” Magalong added.
