Rob group leader killed in alleged shootout

A ROBBERY group leader and rape suspect was killed early Thursday morning, February 13, after he allegedly resisted arrest and engaged in an armed confrontation against the arresting officers who served a warrant of arrest against him in Barangay Tampalon, Kabankalan City.

The victim was identified as Ricar Loberas, of legal age and resident of the said barangay.

Based on the report of the Kabankalan City Police Station, around 4 a.m. on February 13, joint personnel of the Negros Occidental Mobile Force Company, Anti-Kidnapping Group and Kabankalan City PNP led by Lt. Colonel Mary Rose Pico served the warrant of arrest issued by Judge Rodney Magbanua, of RTC Branch 61against the said accused.

However, while the arresting teams were approaching the house of Loberas he opened fire against them which resulted to armed confrontation.

The said incident resulted to the instantaneous death of the accused.

Loberas was imprisoned at the New Bilibid Prison and upon his release he went back to Kabankalan and allegedly formed a group who are responsible for the series of robberies in different areas of Negros Occidental.

Loberas based on police record is allegedly also the mastermind behind a kidnapping for ransom case in Kabankalan City.

Recovered in the crime scene were one FEG 9mm pistol, five live ammunitions, four empty 9mm shell, .38 revolver with three live ammunitions, three empty caliber .38 ammunition, one improvised tooter, two small transparent sachet containing white crystalize substance suspected to be shabu, one small sheet of aluminum foil and one magazine of FEG 9mm pistol.
