Prices of flowers shoot up on Valentine’s Day

THE prices of flowers in Cagayan de Oro City have increased as people stormed the flower shops for Valentine’s Day.

Flower vendors located in the Saint Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral said the prices of their flowers, especially the roses, have increased as some of the flower planters also raised their rates.

A single rose can now be bought at P50 while a bouquet of roses, composed of 12 roses, costs around P600 and two dozen of arranged roses (with design) costs P2,500. It will cost more if the customer order flowers with stuff toy and chocolates.

According to Alfe Sepulbida, who has been working as a distributor for four years, the prices of flowers always increase especially during Valentine’s Day and All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days.

However, he added, there are still several people who buys their flowers.

While most buy flowers to give to their loved ones on the day of love, there are also others who preferred to be practical as they gift their wives with either money or rice.

Malls and other business establishments such as restaurants and hotels have their own promos and services on Valentine’s Day dedicated to couples.
