FILIPINO workers may again be deployed to Kuwait.
This after the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) ordered the lifting of the deployment ban imposed by the government in the wake of the brutal killing of migrant worker Jeanelyn Padernal Villavende in Kuwait.
POEA Governing Board Resolution No. 07-2020 also lifts the ban on the deployment of domestic workers or household service workers.
"The POEA Governing Board in a meeting duly convened resolves to lift the deployment ban in Kuwait and to resume the processing and deployment of all remaining categories of domestic workers or household service workers," said the POEA.
The resolution stated that the ban was lifted after charges were filed against those behind Villavende’s death.
“After due consultation with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and with the filing of appropriate charges against the perpetrators [in the killing] of OFW Jeanelyn Villavende in a Kuwait court, the Governng Board of the POEA unanimously approved the lifting of the remaining ban in Kuwait with respect to the deployment of household workers,” said the POEA.
The POEA imposed the ban on January 15. It was partially lifted a week ago, allowing migrant workers to report for work in Kuwait except the newly hired and returning domestic workers.
The Kuwait and Philippine governments agreed on the template of the standard employment contract for Filipino domestic workers. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
