DOH: No more PUIs in Eastern Visayas

EASTERN Visayas has no more patients under investigation (PUIs) for coronavirus disease (Covid-19), as all the 16 patients were cleared and discharged Friday, February 14.

"We would like to remind the public with our assertion that any news of suspected or confirmed cases circulating in various media platforms remain as speculations without official verification from our office," said Department of Health (DOH) Regional Director Minerva Molon.

She said Eastern Visayas is still free from Covid-19.

"As of now, we do not have any admission of patient under investigation but we will not let our guards down and continue our advocacy for a healthy Region 8," said Molon in a statement.

Out of 16 PUIs, 14 were tested negative for the virus, while the two others, who were asymptomatic, were cleared after completing their 14-day quarantine.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development said it "continues to strengthen its surveillance and early detection of possible PUIs and also intensifies health education campaign to the public on how to avoid the Covid-19."

In Manila, the DOH central office also said that the first positive case in the country was already discharged from hospital.

As of Friday, Covid-19 infected over 66,000 people and killed more than 1,500 in mainland China where the virus originated. (SunStar Philippines)
