BIG Hit Entertainment just announced a “Learn Korean with BTS” media program and here’s why “Koreaboos” are getting psyched.

From K-Pop music by Korean artists who tour the world (like BLACKPINK) to the addicting K-Drama series that has most of the world wracked with insomnia and glued to their screens -- the news about the Korean movie “Parasite” winning four Oscars this year is yet another point proving that Korean Pop Culture is taking the world by storm.

If you think (because I brought it up) this is going to be yet another article talking about “Parasite”— well, it isn’t. Something else is shaking up the “Koreaboos” of the world this month.

But first, for those who don’t know what a “Koreaboo” is, it’s basically defined by the internet as “a non-Korean person who is overly obsessed with Korean (pop) culture, generally to the point of wanting to be re-born as Korean or make themselves seem more Korean (either physically or by adopting mannerisms and speaking habits).” Yup, all those non-Korean people who are obsessed with K-Pop, K-Drama, K-Skincare and want to be Korean — those people make up the “Koreaboo” population.

Back to the issue at hand — last Feb. 4, 2020, a popular entertainment agency “Big Hit Entertainment” (BHE) released a broadcast of its “corporate briefing with the community” and fans went nuts.

So, what’s the big deal about a corporate briefing anyway?

Big Hit’s founder Bang Si-Hyuk announced that the company would be preparing Korean language education content for their fans.

He said: “There are many fans who can’t enjoy Big Hit content to the fullest due to the language barrier. Foreign media point out that there is ‘more demand for learning Korean thanks to K-pop,’ but there are only limited ways our fans could learn Korean with ease.”

Talk about thoughtful! Soon to come is another way for “Koreaboos” to fall even further down the rabbit hole. But why did I make it seem like such a mind-blowing thing earlier? Well, the highlight of the learning program they’re launching is “Learn Korean with—”. Can you take a guess?

Why, none other than the most famous and adorable K-Pop boy group in the present universe... BTS!

BTS has captured the hearts of most — if not all — “Koreaboos”, being known for their catchy songs, eye-catching dances and for also being such charming goofballs.

“Learn Korean with BTS” is a Korean-learning media program that will reportedly feature “artist content” and provide “a more rewarding and immersive experience” for fans. BHE will first start the virtual lessons using BTS content, such as their music, shows, vlogs, speeches and more.

BHE announced that the launch of its “in stages” would be starting this March. Not only that, but Bang Si-Hyuk also said that BTS is only the first group of artists in the Big Hit roster to launch a program of this nature, but the company also plans to expand its Korean-teaching repertoire with other artists in their label.

Talk about a fun way of being a step closer to understanding the language of a (pop) culture that we love so much.

BHE also unveiled super exciting news about the company’s plans for 2020 and the years to come, which include a variety of new BTS content (such as books, games, and “animated episodes”), a new boy group debuting in 2022 under Big Hit, the 13-piece idol group SEVENTEEN joining the Weverse app and a new girl group debuting in 2021.

What a time to be alive!
