Lawmaker to lobby funds for quarantine facility

REPRESENTATIVE Jose Manuel Dalipe II of this city’s second congressional district vowed to help lobby for funds for the construction of a quarantine center in Zamboanga City.

Dalipe’s statement came after it was announced that the government is set to construct a quarantine facility to house people contracted with contagious and dreaded disease like the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Dalipe said it is important to have such kind of facility to house people afflicted with contagious and dreaded disease separate from other patients.

“I want an appropriate safety measure that all those infected with the disease will be housed in one facility instead of putting them in the hospital mixed with other patients,” Dalipe explained.

Earlier, the city government has identified the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) and the Mindanao Central Sanitarium General Hospital as the treatment facility of positive case of Covid-19.

Dr. Omar Aranan, Bureau of Quarantine-Zamboanga Station head, earlier announced that the quarantine facility will be constructed in the 2,577 square meters lots the Department of Health (DOH) has purchased in the village of Kasanyangan.

Aranan said the building, which will cost P80 million, will have isolation and inspection rooms, waiting area, and open space that can accommodate as many as 2,000 patients.

Both Dalipe and Aranan said the facility can accommodate patients suffering from new disease of international emergency like the dreaded Covid-19.

The Covid-19 emanated from Wuhan City, Hubei province, China and has already spread in several countries, including the Philippines. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
