Tega bags second Davraa gold

MATI, Davao Oriental--Bulky Nova Belle Tega of Davao City struck for her second gold medal in athletics competition of the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet at the Mati Centennial Sports Complex here Friday.

Tega, who captured the secondary girls shot put on Thursday, added the secondary girls discus throw gold after registering a distance of 25.70 meters. Digos City's Kesziahqueen Lusica (24.13) and Davao del Sur's Jessica Alao (23.21) settled for the silver and bronze, respectively.

The 17-year-old Tega, who hails from Mulig, Toril, however failed to even make the final eight of the javelin throw event.

"I'm just good for heavy stuff like the shot put and discus (laughs). The javelin was too light for me. I just tried playing it but I only disgraced myself (laughs)," Tega said in the vernacular.

The javelin title went to short-haired Alao who threw a distance of 28.55 meters. She bested Davao City's Jayka Laureto (28.02) who got the silver and Davao Oriental's Cherry Mae Lupiahan (24.45) who copped the bronze.

Laureto, a 16-year-old student at Buda National High School, said in the vernacular: "I really did my best but winning the silver is already an achievement considering it's my first Davraa Meet. I just hope I can get a slot for the Palaro."

Davao del Sur's Jecson Palacay bagged the elementary boys javelin throw gold medal while Tagum City's Kimberly Dangli captured the gold in the girls side.

Palacay hurled the javelin to a distance of 33.95m, beating teammate Lambert Pedregosa (29.26) and Davao City's Romeo Libuit (29.02) while Dangli (19.56) outclassed Eden Postero of Davao del Norte and Marjie Estoconing of Davao del Sur.

Davao City's Kenneth Marikit, meanwhile, registered 12.27 meters to clinch the elementary boys triple jump gold over teammate Harmon Nataya (11.50m) and Davao Oriental's Arnold Hinampas (11.44m).
