“ROSES are red. Violets are blue. For Valentine’s 2020, what did you do?”

Chocolates, roses and a day filled with love! Valentine’s Day is especially popular among lovers. However, with the rising awareness on self-love, single ladies and men also celebrate this day. Let’s face it: Loving one’s self is awesome.

Here are some ways people celebrated the day of love.

“We just stayed at home and watched a movie instead of going out because, you know, there’s the COVID-19 scare. Besides, there’s heavy traffic. Aside from this plan being economical, it’s also more convenient compared to lining up at restos with a bunch of couples. At the end of the day during Valentine’s, you just want to spend time with the person you love the most regardless of the location.” — John John Daño

“Feb. 14 is just another date in the calendar for me and my boyfriend. We spend almost every day together, so Feb. 14 is just another day to love.” — Roxanne Denniece Rivera

“Ever since I started working, I seldom had the chance to go home to my hometown. Years have passed and I’ve constantly spent my holidays here in Cebu. However, for this Valentine’s, I spent it with my first love—my family. I’m finally home in Mindanao for a couple of days. It’s just the sweetest vacation!” — Julie Jane Pamunag

“Valentine’s Day was like any other day. We would get up, worry about how the rest of the day would turn out, except for the fact that we have at least 25 percent of it planned out. The most awaited part of the day was driving all the way to the city to have dinner at one of my favorite Korean restaurants. It was my boyfriend’s first time trying out the place and his reaction was just priceless!” — Regina Benavides

“It’s been seven years since I actually ‘participated’ on that day. But for this year’s Valentine’s, I was completely caught off guard because the person I’m exclusively dating surprised me in Davao. It was a night worth remembering.” — Ralph Lawrence Llemit

“It was quite an eventful day especially since it was her first day of work. I gave her a box of chocolates after dropping her off in the morning. During lunch, since our offices are just close, I picked her up, had lunch together, and gave her a bouquet of flowers. After our shifts, I picked her up once again and drove up to Mountain View to our favorite spot and had a picnic—with beer, of course!” — Byok Morales
