Cviraa to be held in mid-March

THE student-athletes in Region 7 can now finalize their training routines for the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) Meet.

This after the organizers released a new schedule for the multi-sporting meet, which is now on March 15 to 21, still in Dumaguete City.

The 17-Under sporting conclave conducted by the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 7 was previously penciled on Feb. 22 to 29 but was postponed as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) scare.

Thousands of elementary and secondary student-athletes, parents, coaching staff and officiating crews will flock to the City of Gentle People for the 19-division sporting meet.

It will be a busy March for the city as it hosts Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) Regional in the first week of the month followed with the PCCL Finals.

Cviraa will take center stage in the third week of the month. Dumaguete City is hosting Cviraa Meet for the second straight year.

The competing divisions are Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Dumageute City, Cebu Province, Tagbilaran City, Mandaue City, Danao City, Bayawan City, City of Naga, Talisay City, Bogo City, Toledo City, Bais City, Siquijor, Guihulngan City, Carcar City and Tanjay.

The inclusion of Cebu Province is a welcome development for its athletes as Capitol earlier said it will not join the Cviraa.

The athletes will vie for medals in archery, athletics, arnis, badminton, billiards, baseball, basketball, 3 on 3 basketball, boxing, chess, football, futsal, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, tennis, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, wrestling, wushu, pencak silat, gymnastics, aero gymnastics and dancesport.

The medalists in the Cviraa meet will be selected as part of the Cviraa team that will compete in the 2020 Palarong Pambansa in Marikina City in May.

Marikina City was chosen as the new host of the national meet after Occidental Mindoro withdrew from the hosting following the damages it faced brought by Typhoon Tisoy. (RSC)
