MASANTOL Mayor Danilo Guintu is allocating the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) received by the local government for the improvement of the town's public market.

The P2.3-million fund was granted by the Department of the Interior and Local Government to the municipality as incentive after it won the Seal of Good Local Governance award in 2019.

Guintu said the grant will be used for the construction of the mezzanine area of the public market located in Barangay Sto. Niño, Masantol.

The construction of the facility is a three-phased project that started in September 2016 for the meat section, followed by the dry goods section in April 2018.

Guintu said the mezzanine area is set for utilization by sellers of various goods such as cellphones, accessories and other gadgets.

"We are organizing our market to proper sections so our consumers will not be confused. It is also ideal to avoid mix up of goods, especially food and non-food, to ensure that it will be safe for consumption," he said.

Guintu also reiterated the ongoing upgrading of the road going to the public market to ensure that it will be accessible at all times to the public.

"We continuous allocate and seek funds for the improvement of our public market and its vicinity because it is vital for the economy of our municipality as it is the center of commerce in the town," he said.
