THE Local Health Board chaired by Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar convened Wednesday, February 19, to discuss crucial issues such as the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio, dengue and measles cases, and the African Swine Fever (ASF), among others.

Presided by City Health Officer Dulce Amor Miravite, the board, on its first meeting for the year, sought to strengthen measures to keep this city free from the dreaded Covid-19, as well as polio and the ASF and to prevent and control dengue and measles cases.

Miravite said while they are determined in the conduct of surveillance and monitoring activities against Covid-19, attention is also focused on other diseases to include dengue and measles, as well as the ASF, which preys on pigs and other equally important issues.

The World Health Organization has classified Covid-19 as a global threat.

Covid-19 has originated in Wuhan City, Hubei province, China and has spread to several countries, including the Philippines. (SunStar Zamboanga)
