Udotco launches 20 Euro 4 jeepneys today

TWENTY air-conditioned jeepneys will be launched by the United Drivers-Operators Transport Cooperative (Udotco) in Lapu-Lapu City on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020.

These units are the first batch of Euro 4 jeepneys from Hino Motors Philippines, and these will be driven by Udotco member drivers. Euro 4 refers to European standards which dictate what is acceptable and what is not in terms of vehicle emissions, according to a Top Gear Philippines article.

“The main difference between Euro 4 engines and older diesels is that the former has an improved catalytic converter that is able to filter out atmospheric contaminants such as sulfur and carbon monoxide more effectively. They also have less THC + NOx (Total Hydrocarbon + Nitrogen Oxide) and Nitrogen Particle matter,” it said.

Udotco chairman Malvin Arias said the Euro 4 jeepneys use fuel.

A unit of Euro 4 jeepney has 23 seats; it has enough floor space for passengers to stand on. It has a security camera and global positioning system.

The Euro 4 jeepneys use the Transit Access Pass card, a form of electronic ticketing payment method.

A Euro 4 jeepney costs P2.2 million. Its price is expensive by P100,000 compared to the price of an electronic jeepney from Star 8 Green Corp. (FVQ / KAL)
