Increase in PUIs in CAR recorded

THE Department of Health–Cordillera (DOH–CAR) observed an increase in the number of patients under investigation (PUIs) in the region seeking medical assistance related to the coronavirus disease (Covid–19).

Karen Lonogan, senior health program officer of DOH-CAR Center for a Health and Development, said this was due to the valid information gathered by the public on Covid–19.

“We had private physicians asking us on where they can send these patients seeking medical assistance. I guess we can there is an increase in the number of patients due to their awareness on Covid-19,” Lonogan said.

DOH–CAR has recorded 24 PUI cases in the region.

“Of this 24 cases, 16 were discharged while eight are still undergoing the 14-day quarantine period while awaiting the test results coming from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine,” Lonogan added.

Doctor Amelita Pangilinan, DOH–CAR OIC director, earlier called on the public to be well informed on Covid-19 and to go to the nearest health facility if they have signs and symptoms relevant to the corona virus.

“We continue to remind the public to practice proper hand hygiene, drink lots of fluids, avoid crowded areas, practice healthy lifestyle and to immediately seek medical assistance from health officials, aside from continuously monitoring official medical updates on Covid–19 from official sources like the World Health Organization, Center for Disease Control and our very own Health Department,” Pangilinan added.
