Zero PUIs in NorMin

THE number of patients under investigation (PUIs) for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Northern Mindanao is down to zero as of Wednesday, February 19, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

According to Dr. Ian Christina Gonzales, DOH Infectious Diseases Cluster head, all PUIs in the region have tested negative and have been discharged from the hospital.

“No additional PUIs reported,” Gonzales said.

On its previous update on February 17, the DOH has recorded five PUIs in Northern Mindanao.

“Region 10 does not have an international airport as compared to other regions, which explains the lower number of PUIs because most were already detected at the international airports,” Gonzales said.

“Although the risk is lower, it will never be zero,” he added.

Gonzales further said that they are still screening passengers arriving at airports and seaports.

They are also continuously preparing, through training, increased community surveillance and hospital readiness, for the possibility of the Covid-19 entering in the region.

Meanwhile, apart from Northern Mindanao, the regions Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Mimaropa, Eastern Visayas and Davao have also recorded zero PUIs as of February 19.

The National Capital Region still has the highest number of PUIs in the country at 104.
