The magic of music

THANK God it's February!

"Got 2 Believe" concert, featuring Ice Seguerra and Joey G at the LausGroup Event Centre last February 5, has totally diverted our weary minds from all the adversities happening since last month.

This pre-valentine concert was the exact respite people have been waiting for. It wasn't an easy January, but you got to believe magic does happen and this two-hour show had outweighed all the distress we've pulled through the past month.

For a few hours, our hearts and minds were calmed, our worries pacified and our hearts filled with love, joy and laughter again; and I think, it furthered my appreciation of artists especially in times like these.

Ice Seguerra, as always, would show up on stage with no glamorous accessories or fancy jewelries-just his guitar, his rapport to people since he was four and his effortless, silky smooth tone.

Stirring up the crowd with classic OPM hits, Ice made me feel the good vibes rushing through my veins upon hearing that nostalgic bass riff o "Alapaap" back-to-back with Juan Karlos Labajo's kundiman blues single "Buwan" (Who doesn't know these 2 songs, right?). I guess that was orchestrated to get everyone glued on him and when we finally did, he mellowed down with his sweet rendition of Teri Desario's "Falling".

It didn't take so long before Ice hit us where our fragile hearts are tickled the most-our romantic side-with a medley of his smash hits "Pakisabi," "Akala Mo" and "Para Sa'Yo." He also covered Sugarfree's "Makita Kang Muli," "Muntik Na Kitang Minahal," "Pagdating ng Panahon" and "Araw Gabi." All these almost melted us!

He also included in his repertoire the timeless hits "Superstar" by The Carpenters, Bread's "Everything I Own" and Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris" for his finale. Such line up of songs makes you feel like "okay, sulit na ang ticket" maybe because those are the very songs you wish to hear from a Valentines concert. But, then again, you realize Joey G hasn't even started yet!

After the 15-minute break for those who wished to take some snacks, Joey G welcomed guests with his cover of the concert title "Got To Believe" by David Pomeranz and Jack Wagner's "All I Need."

But, probably, no language could truly strike straight to the heart than our very own. Joey G had just perfectly rolled some of the Philippine music icons' songs into one beautiful medley: Ogie Alcasid's "Nandito Ako", Ariel Rivera's "Sana Kahit Minsan", Basil Valdes' "Tuwing Umuulan At Kapiling Ka" and Rey Valera's "Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko".

Everyone was singing along and, in my mind, I thought, "what songs could be better played in a Valentines treat than this?"

No broken-hearted songs, just the right kind of feel good music. But, a Joey G concert wouldn't just be complete had he not sung Side A's monster hits "Aking Awitin," "Set You Free," "Tell Me" and, of course, "Forevermore."

You would probably think the show must be over by now. But, no because this isn't the kind of concert where two artists are squeezed in a one-hour show. Joey G seemed to have just begun; his energy in the next songs was even electrifying! Singing their hit "Tuloy Pa Rin" propelled the guests up on their feet, singing and dancing "Hey" by Fatima Rainey, "I Love You Always Forever" by Donna Lewis, "Together Again" by Janet Jackson, "Do You Believe" by Eric Gadd and Kenny Loggins' "Footloose" to wrap up the evening!

What a show! It was a complete package of everything you wished to witness in a concert -- some Pop, Soft Rock, Ballad, Easy listening and Love songs -- the perfect dose of music to get us through another week!

Got 2 Believe concert was brought to you by RW 95.1 FM, Countryside Entertainment Inc. and LausAutoGroup. (Aubrey "DJ Alex" Ferrer Sembrano)
