Magdale, Velasco topple opponents

OPTOMETRIST Virgilio Magdale and nursing student Gabriel Velasco upstaged their respective rivals to clinch titles in two separate Datba tournaments held at SM Lanang Premier Bowling Center recently.

Magdale, whose handicap is 24, struck for a total of 615 pinfalls after three games to rule the 11-player field Tuesday, February 18.

Mika Aquiatan (30) settled for the runner-up honors after hitting 605 pins.

Magdale and Aquiatan received cash prizes of P700 and P400, respectively.

Meanwhile, back-to-back bowler of the year Gabriel Velasco topped the weekly tournament held Saturday, February 15, as he garnered 643 pinfalls in the three-game bowlfest organized by the Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba).

Velasco, only with an eight handicap, bested Darius Beloy (27) and Aquiatan (30) who placed second and third, respectively, in the 24-player cast.

Beloy amassed 605 pinfalls while Aquiatan scored 589.

Another weekly qualifying tournament is slated Saturday also at the same venue.
