3 teams confirm entries in 2010 Shakey’s volley Negros

AT LEAST three teams have confirmed participation in the 2010 Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League-Negros Elimination which is scheduled to kick off Saturday at the College Covered Court of the University of St. La Salle.

The teams are Negros Occidental High School, Doña HOrtensia Salas Benedicto National High School of La Carlota City, and former national titlist University of St. La Salle-Integrated School which just topped the girls volley competition of the 2010 Western Visayas Regional Palaro in Kalibo, Aklan carrying the colors of Negros Occidental.

The Malot Lozada-mentored champion squad is scheduled to arrive Saturday from Aklan and it was not clear whether the opening of the Negros elimination will push through on Saturday as scheduled.

The event is organized by the Negros Occidental Volleyball Association (Nova) headed by former Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) president Roger Banzuela who is the official coordinator of the Shakey’s Girls’ Volleyball League Season 7.

Meanwhile, revisions in the tournament rules will be implemented starting this year.

For the Champion team that will compete in the Tournament of Champions in Tacloban, the team may be reinforced by up to four players coming from the first and second runner-up teams of the eliminations.

Organizers of the Shakey’s GVL Bacolod leg hope to attract at least 10 teams to compete in the elimination in order to form a truly competitive champion squad for the Tournament of Champions.
