Village councilman hacked dead

A VILLAGE councilor and former captain of Barangay Libertad, Escalante City was hacked to death after a drinking spree in Sitio Sampinit of said barangay on February 19.

The victim was identified as Jorge Eapada, 66 years old of the same place.

Based on the report of Escalante City PNP, Lorena Mahilum, the daughter of the victim went to their office and sought police assistance as her father was hacked by unidentified suspects.

Mahilum said prior to the discovery of his body, Espada had a drinking spree in front of his house together with his friends Alejandro Dalaorao, Jolito Catipay, Roberto Aberena, Jesus Careon and Leonardo Blanco.

At about 1:40 p.m. of same date, the wife of the victim noticed that the drinking session already ended. She approached his husband thinking he was sleeping but to her surprise she discovered that her husband bathed with his own blood with multiple hacked wounds in the face and head.

Pursuit operations were immediately conducted by the responding police officers wherein Roberto Aberina and Jolito Catipay were brought to Escalante City Police Station for questioning.

Further Investigation is still being conducted for the identification of the suspect and to establish motive about the incident. The victim was brought to Vicente Gustilo District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
