BENGUET sports complex may soon get a rubberized track oval.
Representative Eric Go Yap, the congressional caretaker in his second visit to the province, assured of an improved sports facility in a bid to strengthen the potential of Benguet as a hub for sports.
“Papagawan natin ng program of works. Uunahin natin yung bleachers and covered court. That is our priority for this year. For the athletic oval, hopefully makahanap tayo ng fund this year, if not next year,” Yap said, who is also the Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list representative.
Yap assured he will continue the efforts of the late Rep. Nestor B. Fongwan, Sr., in putting up the gymnasium while pointing out the need to introduce the overall development of the sports complex in Wangal, La Trinidad.
The solon added once the sports complex is fully developed, Benguet can be a potential host of upcoming local, regional, national and even international sports competitions in the future.
“That is my commitment for the people of Benguet,” Yap added.
Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas in a media briefing last year also assured the completion of the sports complex and other sports facilities in the province to help in the development of striving athletes who will compete in the local, national and even international sports events in the future.
At least P100 million is being earmarked for the completion of the gymnasium inside the sports complex.
Benguet has been shying away in hosting the annual Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (Caraa) because of the absence of a rubberized trakc oval which is one of the requirements when hosting the regional sports meet.
Georaloy Palao–ay, information officer of DepEd–CAR, earlier said all LGUs wanting to host the regional sports meet should have a rubberized track based on the criteria set by Republic Act 10588 or the Palarong Pambansa Act.
The DepEd official added investing in quality sports facility is one way of boosting the development of athletes in the grassroots.
