CCC standout to be feted in SAC Awards

SOUTHEAST Asian (SEA) Games medalists Lois Kaye Go, Rinna Babanto and Aldaine Laxa will lead the cast of awardees for taekwondo and golf in the 37th Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC)-San Miguel Beer Cebu Sports Awards on Feb. 29, 2020 at the SM City Cebu Northwing.

The three Cebuanas are major awardees for their respective sports after winning gold and silver medals in the 30th SEA Games, which was hosted by the Philippines in December last year.

Go, a product of the Cebu Country Club junior golf program, snatched a gold medal in the women’s team matchplay with partner Bianca Isabel Pagdanganan at the Luisita Golf and Country Club. The University of South Carolina standout also won a gold medal with Pagdanganan and Yuka Saso in the 2018 Asian Games.

Rinna Babanto and Aldaine Laxa, on the other hand, made their mark in the taekwondo event of the biennial sporting conclave. Babanto and Laxa were part of the women’s poomsae team that won a silver medal. The former added another silver medal in the mixed poomsae.

Meanwhile, Gen Nagai and SEA Games bronze medalist Nica Garces will receive citation awards. The Cebu-based Japanese Nagai was the 2019 National Strokeplay men’s champion while Garces bagged a bronze medal in the taekwondo -46 kgs division. (Pooled Report)
